We aim to get facts right and to fix them quickly when we do not. This page explains how to report an error and what happens next.

Report an error

Our correction mailbox is not published yet. Until it is, please do not send sensitive material through the sign-in form. This page will show the address as soon as it is live.

Mistakes about people, products or research are the most useful reports. If a page describes your tool or your work inaccurately, tell us what is wrong and where we can verify it.

What we do with a report

  1. We check the claim against the primary source, not against another summary.
  2. If it is wrong, we fix the page. If we cannot confirm either version, we remove or soften the claim.
  3. If the change affects what a reader would conclude, we add a short note at the end of the page saying what changed and when.
  4. We reply to the person who reported it when the review is done.

What counts as a correction

A substantive change, such as a wrong figure, a misattributed claim or a conclusion that no longer holds, gets a dated note and a new "updated" date. Typos and formatting fixes are made quietly. Changes in the world, for example a vendor changing its pricing or a new study, are updates and are handled under the editorial policy.

Errors in a detection result

A result that looks wrong for a piece of writing is not necessarily a software error. Detectors make mistakes, and the accuracy page explains which kinds of text are most at risk. We do not change or override a result for an individual text. If the checker fails to run, shows a broken page or misdescribes how it works, that is something we want to hear about.
